Ryan McBride has been part of St. Dominic’s for 18 years, managing the St. Dominic Family Medicine Dogwood Clinic and witnessing firsthand the commitment that defines our healing ministry.
But when he experienced a stroke, that commitment became deeply personal.
“The people I used to work with were the ones who helped take care of me,” Ryan says. “Seeing familiar faces soothed my concerns and allowed the healing to begin.”
Two people were particularly helpful to Ryan’s healthcare journey: Danny Burney, director of radiology, and Sherrie Winters, director of nursing.
For Ryan, St. Dominic’s has always been more than just a workplace — it’s a community built on faith, compassion and a shared mission to care for others. Now, as St. Dominic Health, the ministry is strengthened by its alignment with the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System.
A Legacy of Care and Commitment
Throughout his years at St. Dominic’s, Ryan has seen the strength of the organization’s values. He believes that the hospital’s resilience through challenges — from the COVID-19 pandemic to shifts in the healthcare landscape — demonstrates its unwavering commitment to the people of Mississippi.
“St. Dominic’s has been a leader in healthcare for as long as I can remember,” Ryan reflects. “Even when other hospitals struggled, we remained strong because of our mission and the people behind it.”
On July 1, 2019, St. Dominic’s became part of our health system through a transition of sponsorship from the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Ill., who founded St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1946.
Ryan sees being part of FMOLHS as an opportunity for growth, innovation and even stronger community care.
More than a Symbol
For Ryan, the Tau is more than just part of St. Dominic’s new logo. It’s a symbol of the ministry’s deep-rooted mission and the compassionate care that defines St. Dominic Health.
“The Tau represents our commitment to taking care of our community,” he explains. “It’s a deep spiritual conviction to be there for our patients, their families and each other.”
St. Dominic’s becoming St. Dominic Health reflects a renewed strength, aligning a rich legacy with a future of continued service. For Ryan, that future is personal. His journey — from clinic manager to patient and back again — reinforces that St. Dominic’s is more than a hospital. It’s a healing ministry where people care for one another.
Continuing the Mission
Ryan is excited about what’s ahead for St. Dominic’s and the people it serves.
“We have a strong legacy, and now we have even more support to help us grow,” he says. “Being part of this ministry has shaped my career and my belief in what healthcare can be.”
For St. Dominic’s, the transformation to St. Dominic Health is more than a symbol. It’s our commitment. Learn more.
